A Clear and Present Danger … ???

Posted on Sep 26 2006 | Tagged as: observations

The government wants carte blanche to arrest, detain, and torture suspected terrorists (in the name of National Security and protecting Americans and the American Way of Life … naturally) … yet, we seem completely incapable of protecting Americans from clear and obvious threats from other Americans.

Yeah, yeah, yeah … “We did what we could.”  Bullshit … though I’m sure that line makes the Sheriff in that county sleep better at night, as it absolves him (and the rest of his staff) of responsibility.

My point is this:  We’re so afriad of being attacked from without … we’re ignoring the fact that we’re being destroyed from within …

… and noone wants to own up to it.

Yarr!

I believe …

… that there’s more to the universe than our limited minds can possibly comprehend, and that makes us feel, small, and “out of control”.  To compensate for these feelings of inadequacy, we construct belief systems based on our limited, narrow-visioned, “keyhole” perceptions of reality.  When phenomena are encountered that don’t fit the system, they are:

  • dismissed as fictitious, erroneous, or blasphemous
  • branded “morally and/or ethically wrong in the face of the system”, opening the doors to persecution of those who wish to explore and discuss them
  • branded “illegal”, again opening the doors to persecution
  • used as the basis to declare war on those who refuse to accept the structure of the system

In other words, the purpose of the belief system is to provide an answer for everything, and that which doesn’t fit the system is “wrong”. It would seem, looking at the events of this day and age, that the more “wrongs” a system has defined … the more zealously and aggressively believers in that system will fight for it, completely convinced that they’re right.

It’s akin to saying “The Earth is flat” … and each bit of evidence contrary to that stance simply adds strength to the position. The more wrong you are, the more right you must be.

Perhaps two wrongs do make a right.
